Who counts as a small business?
A company with fewer than 100 people, counting employees and independent contractors, and less than US$1,000,000 in revenue in the prior tax year (2019 dollars, adjusted for inflation). Parent companies, subsidiaries and affiliates under common control count together.
What counts as non-commercial?
Personal study, hobby projects and research with no anticipated commercial application. Charities, educational institutions, public research organizations and government institutions are covered whatever their size.
shimforge is only a dev-dependency. Do we still need Pro?
Yes, if your company is above the thresholds. The free licenses cover using shimforge, not just shipping it, and running it in your test suite is use.
Do I need a license key or to register?
No. Add shimforge to your dev-dependencies and keep the license text with any copy you pass on.
Our policy only allows OSI-approved licenses.
Neither PolyForm license is OSI-approved. Treat shimforge as commercial software and ask us for a license rather than assuming it’s blocked.
